Further taxis can be hired from the airport till Mussoorie anytime the day as the road connectivity to the hill station is excellent.
By Train to Mussoorie
Dehradun which is just 35 Km from Mussoorie is a major railway station head to access this majestic hill station. It is connected with major cities of India through rail web of express trains at regular intervals. The train runs from major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai at a periodic schedule to Dehradun. Dehradun is very well connected with the road to Mussoorie and you can take a private cab/taxi or state transport bus anytime to reach here from the railway station.
By Road to Mussoorie
Mussoorie is located nearby to the capital city of Uttrakhand and it gives an extra edge to this hill station in terms of accessibility. You can reach Dehradun by frequent bus service of private operators and state-owned buses from Delhi and Chandigarh anytime the day. The luxury bus service is continuous throughout the day and night from Delhi. From Dehradun, also, you can find good connectivity for another 35 km till Mussoorie.

Mall road is the topmost tourist attraction in Mussoorie and it is located at an altitude of 2000 meters. It is a road with picture palace at its east end to the famous Library at its west end. Mall road is also a center of shopping activity in the hill station as maximum marketing related stuff can be easily spotted along the roadside.
Road also houses restaurants, hotels, gaming parlors, bars, and much more activity to undertake while having a walk through it. You can have a glimpse of colonial-type structures of the building and hoses situated nearby to it which simply reflects British architecture. Mall road also provides you with a beautiful and mesmerizing view of Doon valley and can see the vast spread of the city of Dehradun from here.
Mussoorie has many waterfalls nearby to it and you can enjoy a lot especially in monsoon season. But kempty fall is well-known plus oldest among them and it is a perennial waterfall. Located at a distance of 15 km from the hill station at an altitude of 4500 feet where you can find water falling from a straight height giving adorable look to tourists.
This waterfall was discovered or can say started by a British officer named John Mekinan in 1835 for the purpose of organizing small tea parties for Britishers there. Milky stream of the fall from a noticeable height can be spotted from a distance while approaching to the falls from the hill station. You can easily reach the fall by personal vehicle or else can hire a taxi with a good motorable road giving beautiful views of the valley en route.
It is a major picnic spot recently added to the list of tourist spots in this hill station. Situated at a distance of 7 Km from Mussorie, this fall is still raw and pure in its form as still untouched by the human intervention. Fall has a pond with fresh water running through it from the fall, as fall is not safe for fun because of the presence of algae.
Children park also has slides and turns to let the children fun with small eateries options available there. But then also it is advised to carry lunch by self as no sufficient lunch facility exists there at fall. You can reach Bhatta falls by cable car ropeway or by hired taxi till Bhatta village from Mussoorie.
It is the newest entry by the government in the tourist spots of Mussoorie and it is an artificial lake. Located just 6 km before the hill station on the Dehradun highway, so you can visit the lake even before entering the hill station. It is a perfect location to enjoy a picnic destination for family and friends.
The scenic beauty of Mussoorie lake remains at peak during monsoon season and many tourist and local visits here for refreshment purposes. There are very few shops available for snacks at the lake so it is advised to bring food by self while visiting. Dhobhi ghat is situated on the main road and from there you have access to the lake by a simple and short walk. This place is famous for its picnic activities and in addition peddled boating can be enjoyed in the lake.
It is the second-highest peak of the hill station and is famous among tourists. Being the highest, it offers a magnificent sight of the valley and the hill station. You can also have a 360-degree view of the highest peaks like Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri peaks in addition to the adorable view of Doon valley. You can reach here by simple walk as it is located at a height of 400 feet to the mall road. Alternatively, you can opt for cable car ropeway to enjoy the scene, hanging in the air. Summer is the best season to enjoy it because you will get a clear view of the valley without any obstructions like clouds.
Presently Gun hill point has an artificial water reservoir, which provide fresh water supply to the residents here. In the colonial times, a gun used to be fired from this point mid day to enable the local peoples to adjust their watch timings and that’s why it is popularly known as gun hill point. It is a place where you can find all time pleasant weather, so it is advised to carry woolen clothing with self while visiting here.
Camel Back road
It is a beautiful road stretching up to 3 km distance in the divine lap of nature with a peaceful and calm atmosphere. Named it like because of the shape of a rock midway naturally formed in the shape of a camel. Library point followed by kulari bazaar to the Camel Back road is the most visited spot in the hill station after mall road. By having a peaceful walk in the lap of nature, you can enjoy a beautiful and romantic sunrise and sunset. It can be accessed anytime in the year but the summer season is the best time to visit and enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the doon valley from here.
Which is red hill as its meaning in the local language and it is the oldest and most populated place in the station. It is known for its pleasant weather which prevails all time, with a beautiful sunrise and sunset view. You must have woolen items with you all the time while visiting here. It is situated in the landour area with a good market in the depot hill nearby to it for shopping.
It is known as library bazaar because of the presence of an old found library at the entry point and also it serves as an entry point to the hill station for the tourists coming by bus. Bazaar means a marketing hub and so it has popular hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and shops for daily need items in this bazaar.
This bazaar has a religious beauty associated with it as Laxminarayan Temple, Gurudwara Sigh Sabha, Mosque, and Christ Church are located along the ride through this bazaar. Location can be visited from 9 AM to 8 PM and has Gandhi chowk at its one end, usually heavy traffic here at the library point so it’s better to visit here in the day time and not in the evening.
Benog Wildlife Sanctuary
If you are a nature lover and interested in the birdwatching, then this place is a must-visit for you. Being a part of Rajaji National Park in Haridwar and Cloud’s end as its last end, it has the best opportunity for photography lovers as well to shoot beautiful images here. You can enjoy the snow-capped peaks from here with utmost green nature with an abundance of pine and cedar trees around you.
Sanctuary can be accessed on all the days of week from 7 AM to 5 PM and the Library Bazaar point in Mussoorie at a distance of 11 Km. A wide variety of flora and fauna can be explored here at Benog sanctuary with Redstart and Red-Billed Blue Magpie is few names among the birds spotted there.
It is a private organization that contributes to society through its social causes in many ways and promotes Himalayan culture and traditions by Paintings, sculptures, and Art forms. It is located at a 3 km distance from the Mussoorie on the Dhanaulti road thereby avoiding busy traffic of the city. Acting as a cultural gateway to Himalaya and was founded by Mr. Sameer Shukla and Dr. Kavita Shukla, and start functioning in 2013. It is operating under four different parts with the basic thought process involved here is to preserve ad showcasing the culture of Mussoorie and its adjoining Himalayan areas:
Soham Art & Heritage center showcases the culture and tradition of Himalaya with various art forms and paintings.
Sri Chamunda Peeth Temple is a holy shrine of Maa Shakti founded in 1988 and an eternal flame is continuously lit here in the temple compound. Temple is an ideal place for activities like yoga, meditation, and performing any religious rituals. The beauty of this temple is a meditation room where you will find an idol of Shirdi Sai in between the motif from two holy cities of Jerusalem and Mecca.
Himalayan Banjare is part of this organization that conducts theme-based excursions and also provides services like trekking, road trips, and other adventurous activities.
Shakti is the fourth part of this organization which is in the service of providing free education to the children of poor and underprivileged sections of society.
You can have a view of local heritage artifacts, musical instruments, jewelry, and clothes and can also undertake bird watching if you are a nature lover too. You will be guided and briefed about the traditions of Uttrakhand in both audio and visual ways by the organization which is worth exploring.
Shedup Choepelling Temple
It is located near the LBSNAA academy and is a prime destination for the Buddhist monks and devotees. It was established by the Buddhist community of Mussoorie and it is situated in the happy valley. You can have the best views of Tibetan architecture and Buddhist traditions by visiting here. Timing to visit this temple is from 5 AM to 12 PM & 4 PM to 9 PM without any entry fees.
It is located at a distance of just 3 Km from the Mall road and it is the best picnic spot for family and friends in circle. This garden is also known as ‘company Bagh’ by locals and it haseverything for a family to enjoy like beautiful varieties of flowers, amusement park, gaming zone and wax museum etc. Company garden can be accessed from Library point with hiried taxi or Rickshaw.
Trekking in Mussoorie
If you are in love with undertaking adventurous activities like trekking then also, Mussoorie can be a beautiful weekend destination for you. Nag Tibba trekking is famous here at Mussoorie among trek lovers and the good thing about this trek is that it is open throughout the year for you. Nag Tibba is a peak with an altitude of 3200 meters with mesmerizing views of high peaks atop.
This trek route is suitable for beginners as well as for experienced trekkers which can be completed in 2 to 3 days. It is a short and beautiful trek where a small temple is located at the top of the peak and has a beautiful camping option available there. The circular route of trek also offers Bird watching, meadows, waterfalls during monsoon, and snow during the winter season.
There are mainly three routes available for this trekking and you can opt any out of these three:
a. From Aunter village via Thatyur where you can reach up to Aunter by drive followed by simple trekking to Nag Tibba with simple curves.
b. From Devalsari village, and this route is of total 13 Km up to the peak and you can avail an option of staying into forest rest house there with prior permission from the Forest department.
c. From Pantwari village and it is the best route mostly adopted by trekkers to reach the peak. The length of the trek is just 8 Km after Panthwari, while Panthwari village at a distance of 55 Km from Mussoorie can be reached by drive.
